Want to know the benefits of online marketing?

Increased Internet accessibility brings increased opportunity. Over 18 million Canadians go online each month, that's over half of the population. It comes as no surprise that a whopping 92% of internet buyers find their agents on the web, 63% via search engines. The use of the internet has come a long way, and is now providing the key to success to more individuals, professionals, businesses and organizations than ever before and Real Estate is no exception.

Through paramount contributions such as mls.ca, realtor.com, realtylink.org and mlxchange.com online buyers have been provided with a venue for searching property listings all across Canada and North America in a way that had never been experienced before. Popular American websites such as realtor.com have commented on the fact that despite predictions made just a decade ago that such systems as MLS posed a threat to realtors; the number of realtors continues to grow. They further comment on the fact that an estimated 77% of American home buyers used the Internet to search for property and used an agent to arrange the viewings and purchases.

Traditional real estate marketing consists of 'For Sale' signs, advertisements on buses and bus benches, direct marketing flyers, business cards, free home evaluations, referrals, and more recently, personal websites. With the notable increase in internet usage, successful eCommerce and various other marketing successes, it should come as no surprise that more and more agents are taking their marketing strategies to the next level by adopting their own personal websites.

The ideal website is said to contain all of the necessary information for prospective buyers or sellers so they don't need to surf elsewhere in an effort to obtain more information. Accordingly, this information must be easily accessible. From the Realtor's perspective, not only should this site be easy and user friendly, it should also be search engine optimized, simple and quick to modify, have up to date information, and of course, generate leads. After all, if 92% of online buyers find their agents on the web, the website should do everything it can to keep the buyer on the site, making clients want to return to the site and contact the agent.

According to the Canadian Real Estate Association, the number of realtors in Canada has increased by more than 7%, reaching its highest level since 1995 with more than 88,000 realtors. According to statistics Canada, the operating profit margin for offices of real estate agents has been on the increase since 2001 across Canada, with only Newfoundland taking a minor setback in 2005.

There is no doubt that real estate is a fast-moving environment, and as such, the trend towards online marketing could pose as a hazard if overlooked. Real estate is just one of many businesses facing a general change in terms of their marketing and sales channels as the internet becomes and ever-present component in the lives of Canadians.
